Frequently asked questions
What counts as a business day?
This calculator counts Monday through Friday as business days, skipping Saturday and Sunday. It does not exclude public holidays.
If I start on a Friday, does that count as day 1?
Yes — if the start date is a weekday, it counts as day 0 (the starting point). Day 1 is the next business day.
Can I calculate backwards from a deadline?
Yes — select "Backward (subtract)" and enter your deadline as the start date to find when you need to begin.

Business days in contracts and SLAs
Business day calculations appear in payment terms ("Net 30 business days"), shipping estimates ("3–5 business days"), legal response deadlines, and employee notice periods. Skipping weekends is crucial — a deadline 10 calendar days away may be only 7 or 8 business days depending on where it falls in the week.
Weekend handling
When counting forward, if the result lands on a Saturday it is moved to Monday; Sunday moves to Monday. When counting backward, Saturday moves to Friday and Sunday moves to Friday. This ensures the result is always a weekday.
