History
The Magic 8 Ball was invented by Albert Carter and Abe Bookman, inspired by a spirit ball used by a clairvoyant. It was patented in 1944 and sold by Mattel since 1950. The original has exactly 20 answers: 10 positive, 5 neutral, 5 negative — giving an optimistic bias.
