Frequently asked questions
What is the MBTI personality test?
The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) is a personality framework that places people along four dimensions: Extraversion/Introversion (where you get energy), Sensing/iNtuition (how you process information), Thinking/Feeling (how you make decisions), and Judging/Perceiving (how you organise your life). The result is a 4-letter code (like INTJ or ENFP) describing one of 16 types.
Is the MBTI scientifically valid?
The MBTI has been widely used since the 1960s but is controversial in academic psychology. Critics point to poor test-retest reliability (people get different results weeks later) and oversimplification of personality. The Big Five (OCEAN) model is generally considered more scientifically robust. That said, MBTI is widely used for self-reflection, career guidance, and team building — with appropriate caveats. Treat it as a mirror, not a measurement.
What is the rarest personality type?
INFJ is often cited as the rarest type at about 1–2% of the population. INTJ and ENTJ are also rare at about 2% each. The most common types are ISTJ (11–14%) and ISFJ (9–14%). Note that rarity doesn't confer superiority — every type has unique strengths.

Understanding the four MBTI dimensions
The four dimensions are: (1) E/I — Extraversion vs Introversion: not about shyness, but where you get energy. Extraverts recharge socially; introverts recharge alone. (2) S/N — Sensing vs iNtuition: how you take in information. Sensors trust concrete details; iNtuitives look for patterns. (3) T/F — Thinking vs Feeling: how you make decisions. Thinkers use logic; Feelers use values. (4) J/P — Judging vs Perceiving: your lifestyle preference. Judgers prefer structure; Perceivers prefer flexibility. All 16 combinations of these create the 16 personality types.
How to use your personality type result
Your personality type is a starting point, not a ceiling. Use it to: (1) Understand your default tendencies and why you respond to stress, social situations, and decisions the way you do. (2) Improve teamwork — knowing your team's types helps you anticipate communication styles. (3) Guide career exploration — some types thrive in highly structured environments; others need autonomy and creativity. (4) Improve relationships — partners and friends with opposing dimensions often complement each other well, but also create friction. Treat your type as a hypothesis to explore, not a fixed identity.
