Frequently asked questions
How many MHz are in 1 GHz?
There are exactly 1,000 MHz (megahertz) in 1 GHz (gigahertz). A 3.5 GHz processor runs at 3,500 MHz.
What is hertz?
Hertz (Hz) is the SI unit of frequency, measuring cycles per second. 1 Hz = 1 cycle per second. It is named after physicist Heinrich Hertz.
How do I convert RPM to Hz?
Divide RPM by 60 to get Hz. For example, 3,600 RPM = 3,600 ÷ 60 = 60 Hz.
What frequency is WiFi?
Standard WiFi operates at 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz. Newer WiFi 6E also uses 6 GHz. These frequencies are in the microwave range of the electromagnetic spectrum.
Frequency unit conversion
The hertz and its multiples
Hertz (Hz) is the base unit of frequency. Common multiples: 1 kHz = 1,000 Hz (AM radio), 1 MHz = 1,000,000 Hz (FM radio, processors), 1 GHz = 10⁹ Hz (WiFi, processors, 5G). Human hearing range is approximately 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz (20 kHz).
Frequency in everyday technology
CPU clock speeds: 2–5 GHz. WiFi: 2.4 / 5 / 6 GHz. FM radio: 87.5–108 MHz. AM radio: 535–1,705 kHz. Power grid (AC): 50 Hz (Europe) or 60 Hz (US). 5G networks: 600 MHz to 86 GHz.
RPM and frequency
Revolutions per minute (RPM) measures rotational frequency. To convert to Hz, divide by 60. A car engine at 3,000 RPM = 50 Hz. A hard drive spinning at 7,200 RPM = 120 Hz.
Frequency: how it works
Unit conversion matters across engineering, science, cooking, and everyday life. This tool applies internationally recognised conversion factors to deliver precise, instant results across all major unit systems — no manual lookup needed.
Who uses this tool?
Scientists, engineers, chefs, and international travellers use this tool daily to bridge the gap between different measurement systems. It eliminates the need to memorise conversion factors or hunt through reference tables.
