What is the difference between DPI and PPI?
DPI (dots per inch) refers to physical print resolution — how many ink dots a printer places per inch. PPI (pixels per inch) refers to screen resolution — how many pixels fit in one inch of display. In practice, they are often used interchangeably when discussing image resolution.
What DPI should I use for printing?
300 DPI is the standard for high-quality print (photos, brochures). 150–200 DPI is acceptable for large-format prints viewed from a distance. 72 DPI was the old web standard but modern screens are 96–400+ PPI.
How do I convert DPI to dots per cm?
Divide DPI by 2.54 to get dots per cm (dpcm). For example, 300 DPI = 300 ÷ 2.54 ≈ 118 dpcm.
What is retina display resolution?
Apple Retina displays typically have 218–460 PPI, depending on the device. At normal viewing distance, individual pixels are not distinguishable to the human eye above approximately 300 PPI.
