Frequently asked questions
How many pixels is 1 point (pt)?
At 96 DPI (the CSS standard), 1pt = 1.333px, so 1px = 0.75pt. At 72 DPI (print standard), 1pt = 1px exactly. Most web browsers use 96 DPI as the reference.
What is the difference between em and rem?
Em is relative to the font size of its parent element. Rem is relative to the root (html) element font size. Both default to 16px in most browsers. Rem is generally more predictable and preferred for layout.
What is a pica?
A pica is a typographic unit equal to 12 points. It is primarily used in print design and desktop publishing. 1 pica ≈ 4.233 mm or 1/6 of an inch.
How do I convert px to pt for print?
For screen (96 DPI): pt = px × 0.75. For print (72 DPI): pt = px × 1. Most design tools (Figma, Illustrator, Word) use pt for text sizes in print documents.
