The m to cm formula
Between meters and centimeters there is one constant ratio, 100. Type any amount of meters into the widget and it multiplies that amount by 100 to produce centimeters.
If an amount is already in centimeters, divide it by 100 to get meters; one centimeter is 0.01 meters.
Common meters-to-centimeters values
Each of the 12 rows pairs an amount in meters with its equivalent in centimeters. Scale up or down by powers of ten, since the ratio 100 does not change.
| Meters (m) | Centimeters (cm) |
|---|---|
| 0.02 | 2 |
| 0.04 | 4 |
| 0.1 | 10 |
| 0.2 | 20 |
| 0.75 | 75 |
| 1 | 100 |
| 1.5 | 150 |
| 3 | 300 |
| 8 | 800 |
| 15 | 1,500 |
| 40 | 4,000 |
| 120 | 12,000 |
The converter formats numbers the same way, which means the cm column above is what you would see after typing the m value into the widget.
Step by step: m to cm
Example 1. Start with 0.12 m. Multiply 0.12 by 100 and the converter shows 12 cm.
Take 0.015 meters as the second case. The widget returns 1.5 centimeters, and that figure divided by 100 returns to about 0.015.
Working backwards, an amount of 2,400 cm corresponds to 24 m.
Reverse direction (cm to m)
If the amount you have is in centimeters, go to Centimeters to Meters. Here 1 cm = 0.01 m, and the layout mirrors this page.
Any other pairing is available in the Length Converter, built on the same conversion function as this page.

Frequently asked questions
One meter equals how many centimeters?
There are 100 centimeters in one meter. Ten meters come to 1,000 centimeters, and 100 m come to 10,000 cm.
How many meters are in one centimeter?
Each centimeter corresponds to 0.01 meters; scaled up by 10, that is 0.1 m.
0.24 meters equals how many centimeters?
The result is 24 cm. The widget scales the m figure by 100 and trims the digits shown.
Will the cm figure be rounded?
Calculation uses ordinary floating-point numbers, then the display is trimmed: 10 significant digits for values from 1 to 1,000, 8 for values below 1, and up to 6 decimals above 1,000. For this pair, 0.123456789 m gives 12.3456789 cm and 1,234.5678 m gives 123,456.78 cm.
What calculation sits behind m to cm?
The unit table gives meters and centimeters each a multiplier against a common reference unit. Dividing one multiplier by the other leaves 100, which is applied to whatever number is entered.
How do I convert centimeters back to meters?
The page titled "Centimeters to Meters" covers it, or you can press the swap button in the widget above. For this direction multiply by 0.01, or equivalently divide by 100. As a check, 25 cm comes to 0.25 m.
