The GB to TB formula

One gigabyte corresponds to 0.001 terabytes here. That single figure is the whole conversion: take the number of gigabytes, multiply by 0.001, and the product is the number of terabytes.

TB = GB × 0.001

The ratio works in both directions: multiply by 0.001 to go from gigabytes to terabytes, or multiply by 1,000 to go from terabytes back to gigabytes.

Quick lookup: gigabytes in terabytes

Each of the 12 rows pairs an amount in gigabytes with its equivalent in terabytes. Scale up or down by powers of ten, since the ratio 0.001 does not change.

Worked examples for gigabytes to terabytes

Suppose a quantity is 65,000 gigabytes. Scaling it by 0.001 gives 65 terabytes.

Next, 3,500 GB: the converter shows 3.5 TB. Because the ratio is fixed, the TB figure is 0.001 times the GB figure.

For the last case, begin with 0.042 terabytes. Multiplying by 1,000 gives 42 gigabytes.

The reverse: terabytes to gigabytes

To start from terabytes instead, open TB to GB. For that direction 1 TB = 1,000 GB, and its reference table is built around terabytes as the input.

For other combinations, the Data Storage Converter offers every unit in one pair of dropdowns.

Frequently asked questions

How many TB make up 1 GB?

The widget shows 0.001 terabytes for each gigabyte. Scaled up, that makes 0.01 TB for 10 GB.

What is 1 TB in GB?

1 TB = 1,000 GB. The reverse ratio is the reciprocal of 0.001, so 10 TB comes to 10,000 GB.

How do I convert 24,000 GB to TB?

Multiply 24,000 by 0.001 and the answer is 24 TB.

How does the converter round results?

The widget calculates with ordinary floating-point numbers and only rounds what it displays. Results of 1 or more show up to 10 significant digits, results below 1 show up to 8, and results from 1,000 upward show up to 6 decimal places with thousands separators. As an example, 0.123456789 GB displays as 0.00012345679 TB and 1,234.5678 GB displays as 1.2345678 TB.

Where does the GB to TB result come from?

Behind the scenes, gigabytes and terabytes are each tied to the same base unit by a stored factor. The ratio of those factors, 0.001, is what turns an GB value into a TB value.

What is the reverse of GB to TB?

Reversing the pair: multiply by 1,000, or equivalently divide by 0.001. The page titled "TB to GB" covers it, or you can press the swap button in the widget above. Example: 25 TB = 25,000 GB.
