How to use this calculator
- 1
EPF withdrawal is FULLY TAX-FREE if: (a) you have 5+ years of continuous service, or (b) retirement at age 58+.
- 2
If less than 5 years of service: withdrawal is taxable. TDS @ 10% is deducted if withdrawal > ₹50,000 (with PAN).
- 3
If your total income is below the taxable limit, file Form 15G (or 15H for senior citizens) to prevent TDS deduction.
- 4
EPF transfer to new employer does NOT break continuity — the 5-year clock continues.
Frequently asked questions
Is EPF withdrawal taxable?
EPF withdrawal is TAX-FREE if you have completed 5 or more years of continuous service (across employers if transferred). It is also tax-free on retirement at age 58. If you withdraw before 5 years: the amount is added to your income and taxed at your slab rate. TDS @ 10% is deducted at source if withdrawal exceeds ₹50,000 and you provide PAN (20% without PAN).
What is Form 15G for EPF withdrawal?
Form 15G is a self-declaration that your total income is below the basic exemption limit (₹3 lakh for new regime / ₹2.5 lakh for old regime). By submitting Form 15G to EPFO, you request that no TDS be deducted on EPF withdrawal. Senior citizens (60+) use Form 15H. This is only valid if your actual tax liability is nil — if you have taxable income, you cannot file 15G.
