Formula for converting degrees Celsius into kelvins
The step from degrees Celsius to kelvins needs the formula K = °C + 273.15. A plain ratio would not work here, since 0 °C does not line up with 0 K.
The size of one °C step is 1 K, and the starting point is 273.15 K at 0 °C. Undoing the conversion uses °C = K − 273.15.
Quick lookup: degrees Celsius in kelvins
A set of 12 °C readings is converted to K below, using the same function as the converter at the top of the page.

Values in the K column are shown the way the converter shows them, with a limited number of significant digits.
Worked examples for degrees Celsius to kelvins
Suppose the starting reading is 80 degrees Celsius. The converter returns 353.15 kelvins.
Next, 8 °C: the converter shows 281.15 K. Reversing the conversion with °C = K − 273.15 gets you back to about 8 °C.
For the last case, begin at 305 kelvins. The reverse formula °C = K − 273.15 gives 31.85 degrees Celsius.
The reverse: kelvins to degrees Celsius
To start from kelvins instead, open Kelvin to Celsius. For that direction the formula is °C = K − 273.15, and its reference table is built around kelvins as the input.

Frequently asked questions
What does 1 °C come to in K?
A reading of 1 °C corresponds to 274.15 K. The formula K = °C + 273.15 also gives 273.15 K at 0 °C, 283.15 K at 10 °C and 373.15 K at 100 °C.
How much is 1 K on the °C scale?
The converter returns -272.15 °C for 1 K, and -263.15 °C for 10 K; the reverse direction uses °C = K − 273.15.
How do I convert 23 °C to K?
Put 23 through K = °C + 273.15 and the answer is 296.15 K.
How does the converter round results?
The widget calculates with ordinary floating-point numbers and only rounds what it displays. Results of 1 or more show up to 10 significant digits, results below 1 show up to 8, and results from 1,000 upward show up to 6 decimal places with thousands separators. As an example, 0.123456789 °C displays as 273.2734568 K and 1,234.5678 °C displays as 1,507.7178 K.
Where does the °C to K result come from?
Because temperature scales have offsets, the unit table stores conversion functions rather than a single factor. The two functions for °C and K together give K = °C + 273.15.
What is the reverse of °C to K?
Reversing the pair: the formula is °C = K − 273.15. The page titled "Kelvin to Celsius" covers it, or you can press the swap button in the widget above. Example: 25 K = -248.15 °C.
